Frequently Asked Questions
The Family Intervention Program
(FIP)
How do I know if FIP is right for my Family?
If family or friends, a school social worker or principal have expressed concern about your child’s behavior or change of habits, Home Based Counseling might help get to the
heart of the problem.
What are the signs my child needs counseling?
If your child engages in risky behaviors he or she may benefit from home-based counseling. But, children are often good at masking their problems and you might not know. Instead, observe the child’s behavior. If there is a sudden change in mood, a change in friendships, or if you have been contacted by juvenile court or other authorities, your child is calling out for help.
Why is this counseling home-based instead of office-based?
Often, certain dynamics within the family need to change in order for the child to change. With home-based counseling, the entire family participates. Plus, there are fewer time constraints on the length of each meeting. With all this convenience, families get involved faster and stay committed to the process longer.
How much does it cost?
The counseling is free.
What are the credentials of the D.A. Blodgett for Children counseling staff?
The counselors and therapists are all master degree level social workers from D.A. Blodgett for Children with training in both mental health and substance abuse treatment.
How do I get started?
Most families are referred to us by the Department of Human Services, but you may call D.A. Blodgett for Children if you are unsure whether or not you qualify and to determine which services might be best for you. |
