What are some basic requirements to adopt an international child?
Each country has its own requirements in terms of age, length of marriage, single applicant requirements, number of other children in the family, and so on. In addition to those requirements, you must be at least age 25 and at least one parent must be a U.S. citizen. Both parents must be U.S. residents or have satisfied requirements of the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), including income requirements. In addition, adoptive parents are encouraged to have reasonable child care plans where consistency is part of the child’s life. Pregnancy may result in the termination of your international adoption process even if you have been assigned a child, depending upon the unique rules of each country.
Do internationally adopted children have special needs?
Children adopted internationally
must adjust to a new country, culture, language, diet, climate, and possibly race. There may be a history of infection or a current illness, so we encourage you to consult a medical professional to help you evaluate the child’s present condition.
What can I expect the cost to be?
Fees for international adoption usually range from $15,000 to $30,000 depending on the country, travel requirements and other variables.
How long will I wait for an international child?
Time frames are dependent upon the country and vary significantly following completion of an approved home study.
Are infants available internationally?
Children of all ages, including babies under 12 months old, may be available, but this factor too is dependent upon the individual country.
