Frequently Asked Questions
The Jerome Webber Medical Clinic
Where is the Jerome Webber Medical Clinic located?
Right inside the main building on the D.A. Blodgett for Children campus, 805 Leonard Street, NE in Grand Rapids. The clinic is staffed by a pediatrician and the Agency’s on-staff nurse.
Who can use the clinic?
The clinic is available, free of charge, to all D.A. Blodgett foster children and is a special service to D.A. Blodgett for Children foster parents who, otherwise, would need to seek out Medicaid-approved doctors and specialists.
What services does the clinic offer?
Medical and psychiatric evaluations, immunizations, referrals to specialists, school required medical exams, and more. Dental services are also available on campus for all children in foster care.
What makes this clinic special?
Several things. First of all, the clinic sees only foster children and clinic staff are familiar with the medical and psychological needs foster families might face such as fetal alcohol syndrome, depression and bedwetting. Because the clinic is right on site, all the child’s placement and family records are readily available and the caseworker is down the hall! Your child gets the help he or she needs without lengthy referrals and, because the clinic serves only D.A. Blodgett foster children, there are no long waits for appointments.
What if a foster child needs care the clinic can’t offer?
We rely on the generous donations of our community to make orthodontics and vision care available to our foster children. Our Agency nurse directly refers children to specialists in the community who are Medicaid providers.
What if my foster child needs immediate help when the clinic is closed?
D.A. Blodgett has an on call pager for emergencies, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Dr. Webber was dedicated to the mission of meeting the needs of children serviced by D.A. Blodgett and we continue to make his vision ours.
Who was Jerome Webber?
Dr. Jerome Webber was the first full time pediatrician at D.A. Blodgett for Children, a job he started in 1939 and held for 27 years!
