Amachi Mentoring

Amachi mentoring began in 2001 in Philadelphia, PA and is a Big Brothers Big Sisters program which matches adult volunteers to children ages 4 – 18 who have a parent currently or incarcerated in a state or federal correctional facility.

Big Brother Big SisterAll Amachi volunteers must be at least 18 years old.  Volunteers spend a minimum of one hour a week with a child.  The ability to reach out and provide friendship is most important.  There are over 8,300 children of incarcerated parents in the Grand Rapids area.  Call Big Brothers Big Sisters at 451-2021 or visit our homepage at www.dablodgett.org to learn more.
