Big Brothers Big Sisters Program Results
The Big Brother Big Sister volunteers serving children in the School-Based and Community-Based programs have had a significant impact on the children to whom they have been assigned.
422 children were served in the community based program in 2007.
Anniversary surveys of matched children indicated the following:
- 97% enjoyed their relationship with their volunteers
- 90% demonstrated improved school performance
- 87% improved or maintained a good school attendance record
- 90% demonstrated a respectful and caring relationship with others
- 69% made constructive use of their time in creative activities
- 75% demonstrated responsible behavior at home
- 95% demonstrated responsible behavior in the community
The following results, from teacher reports occurred with the 274 children who were school based mentored in the 2006-2007 school year:
- 58% improved their grades in at least one subject.
- 68% improved their behavior.
- 51% improved in their relationship with peers.
- 70% improved in their self-confidence.
- 59% improved in their attitude about school.
