Using the Library for Foster Parent Training
The Kent District Library is a very useful resource for foster parent training. They have a vast collection of materials, which can assist you in keeping your training hours current. Foster parents who prefer to view videos or DVD’s and then write up their independent training credit form can easily find many new or additional choices that the DA Blodgett library does not have.
Here’s how:
- Go to the Kent District Library website: http://www.kdl.org
- The Catalog is near the upper left.
- Change search option from “title” to “keyword”
- TYPE IN YOUR KEYWORD: Some examples are parenting, child abuse, learning disabilities, discipline, kids and drugs, or kids and alcohol, lying, stealing, etc.
- You now have a list of all materials for the keyword you entered.
- To narrow your search to the material you want, DVD’s, Videos, Books, click on MODIFY SEARCH near the top
- Enter your material type (example DVD) click SUBMIT
- You now have a list of the DVD’s for the Keyword you searched for
To place a hold for an item online, you will need to enter the number off of your library card. The library will then send that item to the library you choose, and notify you when it is ready to pick up. If you don’t have a computer in your home, you could do this at the library as well.
Some specific items we recommend:
- 1, 2, 3, Magic
- Parenting With Love and Logic
- Assertive Discipline
